How to use this website

Overview:

The CAAFA Safe Home Network's Resource Committee maintains a list of agencies providing human services in over 25 categories including: victim support, counseling, emergency support, behavioral health and disability services.   Agencies included serve the Northern Pinal County area.

Our directory contains two general types of information:

  1. A searchable Agencies database - Our main database contains names, contact information and descriptions for many agencies that provide human services.  You can search this Agencies database in a variety of ways.

  2. Lists of useful information - We also maintain lists of related useful information, including lists of: support groups, faith communities, civic organizations and emergency numbers.   This information is not searchable - these are simple lists (most fit on one page) with essential information only, separate from the Agencies database.
There are two ways to find information on this website: predefined searches and 'make your own' searches.

Predefined Searches:

We have included the most popular requests for directory information as predefined searches.  Click the 'Predefined Searches' button on the entry page, then simply select the search that most closely matches what you are seeking, and click the 'Go' button.

Current predefined searches include:

'Make Your Own' Searches:

The result returned for a predefined Agencies search is often large...sometimes providing more information than you really want.  If you are seeking more specific information, the 'Make Your Own Search' section allows you to specify ways to narrow or refine your search.

You can refine your search in 4 ways:

  1. Specify search 'criteria' - Groups of criteria checkboxes are shown on the 'Make Your Own Search' page.   By checking only the boxes that apply for Agencies you want to see, you can narrow your search.

  2. Specify an ' Updated Since' date - You can include an 'updated since' date, and only Agencies whose information has been updated since that date will be included.

  3. Search for single words or phrases - If you type a word or phrase in the 'search text' box, Agencies will only be included if this search text appears in at least one part of their information.

  4. Group your results - You can choose between displaying your results alphabetically by Agency name, or grouped by either Service Category, or by Area Served.

The best way to understand how this works is to consider some examples:

If you:
  • check the 'Counseling' and 'Domestic Abuse' boxes under 'Service Categories'
  • leave 'Group results: alphabetically, by Agency Name' selected
  • ...then click 'Go'...
...the list of Agencies returned will contain any agency that included 'Counseling' or 'Domestic Abuse' as one of their Service Categories, regardless of what area they serve, their language, fees, etc. The results will be listed alphabetically, by Agency Name.
If you:
  • check the 'Counseling' and 'Domestic Abuse' boxes under Service Categories
  • also check 'Apache Junction' and 'Gold Canyon' under Area Served
  • also check 'Yes' under ADA Accessibility
  • ...then click 'Go'...
...the list of Agencies returned will contain any agency that meets ALL of these criteria:
  1. included 'Counseling' or 'Domestic Abuse' as one of their Service Categories.
  2. included 'Apache Junction' or 'Gold Canyon' as one of their Areas Served.
  3. specified ADA Accessibility as 'Yes'.
If an agency fails to meet any of these criteria, they will not be included in the search results.  Checking the boxes this way is like asking, "Only show me Agencies that provide Counseling or Domestic Abuse, if they do this in Apache Junction or Gold Canyon, and if they are ADA Accessible."

A note about Areas Served...

Agencies specify their Areas Served in different ways...some enter specific cities, others only counties or regions.  We wanted to make sure that if you search for agencies and check 'Florence' you would see results from all agencies serving Florence, even if these agencies specified larger regions, like ' All Pinal County' or ' Statewide' as their Area Served.

In the directory database, these geographic relationships are accounted for:

Search results:

When you click the 'Go' button for an Agencies database search, your web browser will reload with the results of the search. Results are display in a 'abbreviated information' format - Agency name, essential contact information and a shortened description are displayed for each Agency in the results.

In the lower right part of each Agency's line in the results is a 'more about this agency...' link.   Clicking this link will reload your web browser with the complete information for this Agency.  To return to the list, just click your web browser's 'back' button.

The page of results you see initially is usually only the first page of many.  To navigate through the list of results, use the 'next' and 'prev' buttons at the bottom of the page.

Printing results lists:

If you wish to print the list of results returned for your search, use the blue 'print entire list' buttons in the upper right on search results pages.   Clicking one of these buttons will open a second web browser window loaded with a printer-friendly version of the list ready for printing.   To send the list to your printer, click the 'send to printer' button on the printer-friendly version webpage.

'Two print buttons are provided - what's the difference?'

'Print Entire List (quick reference info)' - this button prints the entire list of results, but displayed as you currently see on your screen...for each agency, an abbreviated listing of information is provided. Each printed page will contain as many agency lines as will fit.

'Print Entire List (full agency info)' - this button prints the entire list of results, but includes the full information available for each agency. Each printed page will contain a single agency's information.

Printing format / Web-browser page setup:

By default, most web browsers add additional information at the top and bottom of each printed page. Usually, this information includes things such as the title of the webpage being printed, the page number when this webpage spans more than one printed page, the date and the web address where the information was obtained.

If you do not want to include this information on your printed pages, you will need to change your web browser's 'page setup'. You can also change things like the size of margins on the page if things aren't printing as you would like.

Each web browser and printer has unique characteristics - you may need to experiment with margins in order to get the results you wish. For reference, here are the settings we typically use when printing our information binder sheets:

No header
No footer
Margins - Left: 1", Right: 0.5", Top: 0.5", Bottom: 0.5"

NOTE: any changes you make to the page setup will affect printing of future web pages (i.e. the changes remain in effect until you change them again) so it is a good idea to write down any previous settings before making alterations in case you want to return to your previous page setup.

How to change Page Setup in Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. In the menu bar at the top, click 'File', then 'Page Setup...'
  3. This should display a popup window that allows you to specify a header and footer, the orientation (portrait/landscape) and the page margins.
  4. If you wish to remove the added text at top and bottom, you need to clear out any text entered in the 'header' and 'footer' boxes, then click 'Ok'.
(Note: these settings apply until you change them again...write down your previous settings just in case you want to restore previous behavior.)

How to change Page Setup in Netscape and Mozilla/Firefox

  1. Open Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox.
  2. In the menu bar at the top, click 'File', then 'Page Setup...'
  3. This should display a popup window. Select the 'Margins &Header/Footer' tab.
  4. This window allows you to specify a header and footer and the page margins.
  5. If you wish to remove the added text at top and bottom, you need to either uncheck or use the pulldown menu arrows to set to '--blank--' (depending on your browser version) all entries for the Header and Footer, then click 'Ok'.
(Note: these settings apply until you change them again...write down your previous settings just in case you want to restore previous behavior.)

Glossary Features:

The advanced search features such as those found in the 'Make Your Own Search' section provides a lot of flexibility and control help you find the information you need.   To use this effectively, when you are given options to choose from, you need to clearly understand what these different options provided mean.

To help you understand terms you encounter as you use the website, this site includes an interactive glossary.  Terms which may need further explanation or clarification, such as the meanings of criteria for searches ( Service Categories, Language, ADA Accessibility, etc.), individual criteria items ( Emergency Support Services, Emergency Needs, etc.) or other general terms ( All Northern Pinal County) have matching glossary definitions.

Words or phrases for which a glossary definition is available will generally be underlined or otherwise set apart from the surrounding text. If you click on one of these, a second browser window will open displaying the definition for that word or phrase.

If you wish to browse all glossary terms and definitions, click here: full glossary
