The Community Alliance Against Family Abuse's Safe Home Network
will host a community celebration in honor of its new resource
directory Web site during its quarterly meeting Jan. 19.
The Human Services Resource Directory for Northern Pinal County,
www.NPCresources.org, will include information about human services
resources, churches and support groups in Apache Junction, Florence,
Gold Canyon, Johnson Ranch, Queen Creek, Queen Valley and
Superior.
The public meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.
19, at John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 1130 E. Broadway Ave.,
Apache Junction, across the street from Central Arizona College.
Tesha Hensley, director of community partnerships, said that it
is an ongoing project therefore agencies are invited to submit
information to be included on the Web site. To do so, call Gayle
Gardner at (480) 982-0205.
"We're going to be celebrating the Web site being up and
available to the community," Ms. Hensley said. "It's going to be an
ongoing process. ... There's going to be a function where you can
insert a date with the last time you looked at it or printed
information and what will come up is all the agency forms that have
either been changed or are brand new to the Web site."
CAAFA's Safe Home Network is comprised of more than 100 partners
representing 16 different sectors of the community including law
enforcement, social service agencies and private citizens.
Ms. Hensley said the network builds on the assets of the
community, while increasing awareness of domestic abuse and
improving access to essential resources.
"Its resource committee, which consists of both private citizens
and representatives from nine community agencies, was formed after
CSHN partners recognized limited knowledge of resources as a major
community challenge. It began meeting in June 2004 to proactively
address this barrier," she said.
Besides the Web site, the directory will be available as a binder
with hard copies of the information provided. Four hundred binders
will be distributed to northern Pinal County communities in the
"near future," she said.
"The strength about this directory is that it is Web-based and
will not only allow professionals and community members to view and
search for information pertinent to their needs, but users can
download regular updates of agencies' information and incorporate
the new or updated pages into their hardcopy binders."
On Jan. 5, United Way of Pinal County donated $10,000 to the
resource committee to aid in the resource directory.
"United Way of Pinal County is excited to be involved in a
project that not only benefits the entire community, but was
developed by a local network of collaborating agencies," said Bill
Ludeke, United Way of Pinal County's executive director. "Putting
referral information into the hands of all community members is a
better way to make an investment."
